Conservation & the Environment
At Rix Farms conservation and environmental enhancement are at the core to what we do. Previously the entire land area was in the Higher Level Stewardship Conservation Scheme. This is now transitioning to the Sustainable Faming Incentive. Options entered under this scheme include multi species cover cropping, winter bird food, low input grassland, hedgerow management and legume fallows.
Rix Farms is also a founding member of the Stour Valley Environmental Cluster group The Stour Valley - Farmer Clusters. The 26 strong group covers over 8,000 hectares throughout "Constable Country". The groups aim is "to combine and integrate productive agriculture with landscape scale enhancement of biodiversity and resource protection".
Non-productive areas of the farm, for example around our reservoirs, are sensitively managed for environmental benefit. This has included tree planting, woodland restoration and wildflower meadow creation.

RenEnergy has been supporting us with solar solutions over the past decade. By continuing to invest in solar we’ve protected supply reliability and reduced our carbon emissions.
Boxted Solar Park
Boxted Airfield Solar Farm is situated north of Colchester and has an installed capacity of 18.8 MW generated via 73,728 solar modules.
This has the capacity to power 5,696 homes with green electricity.
